Seeking Rhyme And Reason

Unbidden, yet you come to pierce my heart
Reminding me of all that has been lost
In darkest night or at the new dawn's start
You're lurking close exacting loving's cost.
You ride the breeze of each crisp autumn day
And hide within the chill of wintertime
You bring again ice-laden clouds of gray
Concealing all life's harmony and rhyme.
The hopefulness of Spring demands you leave
You fiercely choke each robin's lovely trill
You drown me in your mighty waves that heave
And pulverize my soul with sorrow's fill.

Will changing seasons ever bring relief
Unfettered by these chains of sorest grief?

Transcendent Wings

You would not want the stars to fade away
To sprinkle not again the velvet sky
Nor wish the sun not greet each dawning day
To radiate its brilliance from on high.
You would not want the tears to always flow
From heaviness of heart from missing you
Unable to enjoy the wondrous show
Of life unfolding endlessly anew.
Your wish would be that I would carry on
To somehow find the wings to rise above
The pressing clouds of gray since you've been gone
And revel in your legacy of love.
To you no greater honor can I give
Than on transcendent wings again to live.

The Poet's Pen

The poet nightly sits with pen in hand
And contemplates the fleeting years of life
The hour glass is nearly drained of sand
Each grain within can tell a joy or strife.
The labor's long to give each one a name
To wrest some wisdom from experience
Too often phrases tend to play the same
Old tired tunes from aging instruments.
Undaunted by the fierceness of this fight
The bard within refuses yet to die
The struggle rages well into the night
Impassioned soul screams loud the battle-cry.

Another victory is sung again
As honey flows forth from the poet's pen.
